The town of Bayou Vista is located off Interstate 45 and State Highway 6 near Jones Bay and Highland Bayou about eight miles west-northwest of Galveston and five miles south of Texas City in Galveston County. Homes were being sold in the coastal development by the early 1960s. Bayou Vista incorporated on January 19, 1985. In 1990 it reported a population of 1,320, and that number increased to 1,644 in 2000. The community consists of waterfront houses along a series of dredged canals that provide access to Galveston Bay and the Gulf. Bayou Vista has a mayor and city council, police department, and volunteer fire department.
