Colonization Contracts in Texas: The Bourgeois-Ducos Grant (unknown–unknown)
Published: 1952
Updated: November 1, 1994
Alexander Bourgeois d'Orvanne and Armand Ducos received colonization contracts from the Republic of Texas on June 3 and July 6, 1842, permitting 1,700 families to be located in Texas. Apparently they secured no immigrants before the expiration of the contracts. On September 19, 1843, Bourgeois negotiated with the Adelsverein for the transfer of the Bourgeois-Ducos grant on the Uvalde, Frio, and Medina rivers to the verein and served as colonial director for the society for four months in 1844.
