Exploring Buena Vista: A Hidden Gem in Cameron County

Buena Vista is a rural community located about twenty-four miles northeast of Brownsville and just north of the Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge in northeastern Cameron County. Some settlement in this area had taken place by the 1930s when highway maps showed a school and farms. By the early 1960s the Buena Vista community was named on maps, but no population figures were available through 2000.
