Welcome to File Requests

This page is a forum for requesting files from other Commons users for pages in Wikimedia projects, including Wikipedia articles. For old discussions, see the archives. Please help translate this page!

Before adding your requests, please consider whether they can be better handled by the following pages.

Adding a request
  • First, try to find a file on your own (see help on public domain image resources.)
  • For a file of a specific location, it may be possible to contact someone near the location and request that they take a photo. The nearest photographer tool can help locate users who are near specific locations.
  • If the object has a fixed location, it can have a Wikidata item with geocoordinates. Items with coordinates will be seen on the WikiShootMe map where any user of that website can see all the places that lack a picture.
  • Link to a page where you want the image to be placed.
  • If possible, include an external link to a picture about the request.
  • Sign your request in case there are questions (use ~~~~).

Rotate racing circuit maps

[edit]

Hello folks, there's plenty of racing circuit maps with SVG format that should be rotated, so they face north or close.

Examples: Hard Rock Stadium Circuit 2022.png, Hard Rock Stadium Circuit 2022.svg, Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours.svg, Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours (1992-2002).svg, Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours (1991).svg, 2022 F1 CourseLayout Japan.svg, File:Suzuka circuit map--2005.svg, Imola 2009.svg, Imola 2009 moto.svg.

Who can help with this? Thank you! NaBUru38 (talk) 17:27, 23 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

@NaBUru38 this is not something this page deals with. please ask at Commons:Graphic Lab/Illustration workshop, thx. RoyZuo (talk) 14:18, 23 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

Request an FBI image file of second perpetrator of Palm Springs car bombing case

[edit]

The article in the English Wikipedia on the 2025 Palm Springs fertility clinic bombing presents a single image on those responsible, see the uploaded FBI image at right,

, despite making clear that the bombing was the result of the participation of a second co-conspirator, Washingtonian "Daniel Jonghyun Park", who fled the country, was extradited / returned to the U.S., and then committed suicide in an L.A. correctional facility while awaiting trial.

An FBI image is available for Mr. Park. We strongly suggest in the interest of accuracy, balance, and fairness, that Mr. Park's FBI image be uploaded at the Commons, so that it can be added to the 2025 Palm Springs fertility clinic bombing article page. Note, the aim of this is not to add notariety to Mr. Park or the movement with which he and Mr. Bartkus had chosen to allign; to the contrary, providing both images, in same size, format, and context, will serve to reduce the notariety of Mr. Bartkus (besides being accurate to the history of the case).

Note, an example citation that provides evidence that the FBI photograph is available can be found at this link, or this, or simply by searching "Daniel Jongyon Park images" and "bombing".

It is also reasonable that if an image of Mr. Gary Mosher becomes available—i.e., the online provocateur that is affiliated with Efilism, who appears to be an influence of these young people, see this or this link—that such an image also should be made available for these various articles, in various languages.

This is asked because we are not registered Commons contributors here, nor can we invest the time to become so. With regard, a former professor and En, etc. Wikipedia editor, et al. ~2026-86110-3 (talk) 16:10, 8 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

Images from Harvard Library Hollis databank?

[edit]

Does anyone have access to the Harvard Library Hollis images databank [1]? I would like to upload a few images of a 15th century manuscript under {{PD-Art}} license, but they are locked (only accessible to those with a Harvard Library registration). The images are:

Could somebody with access to the Harvard Library Hollis databank upload them on Commons under {{PD-Art}} at maximum resolution? They can be placed in the following category: Timurid genealogy, 1405-1409, Samarkand (Topkapi Sarayi Müzesi, H.2152). Thank you! पाटलिपुत्र (talk) 08:20, 16 January 2025 (UTC)Reply

GeoJSON for MH17

Bit of an odd request: if someone could upload the data of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 to Commons to create an interactive map (compare Data:Azerbaijan Airlines Flight 8243.map) that would be great. Flightradar24 has the data here but it needs a subscription to download (I'm not sure which, or even if it's still available since it's been over 10 years.) Thank you in advance. Lists of missing files

[edit]

d:Category:Wikidata items missing media has various topical lists where one can find items missing an image . For some items in these lists, an image may already exist on Commons and just isn't yet set on the item – for others, a file upload to Commons is requested. Some of these lists are included in this section. Similar lists on other Wikimedia projects can also be included here.

Mushrooms missing a photo

[edit]

See d:Wikidata:WikiProject Biology/List of mushrooms without a photo for many mushrooms that miss a photo.

If you upload a good photo of any of these, please add the corresponding Commons category to the image and add it to the Wikidata item about the mushroom by clicking "add statement" and entering image and then the file name. I have suggested that media (photos, videos, audio) set in Wikidata items is suggested and/or auto-added to their Wikipedia articles but since that is currently not done, it may be best if you also manually add the photo to the Wikipedia article. Obviously, it's very important that it's actually the mushroom shown since some mushrooms are toxic...there's apps that can AI scan fungi to help verify the species somewhat and people may be very knowledgable in the fungi and/or could also ask e.g. on the Wikipedia article talk page. --Prototyperspective (talk) 13:35, 7 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

Weight training exercises

[edit]

See d:Wikidata:List of weight training exercises for weight training exercise that miss a video and gif or photo. Note that items on many (most) weight training exercises are still missing on Wikidata and items could (should) be created. Please upload more demonstrations of specific weight training / fitness exercises – these are also very useful even if they're not set on any Wikidata item. --Prototyperspective (talk) 17:14, 19 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

Screenshots & videos of Wikimedia tools

[edit]

See d:Wikidata:List of Wikimedia tools with Wikidata item. A column will be added for videos once there are more videos explaining what these tools are about and how to use them. Note that many Wikimedia tools currently don't have a Wikimedia item. These may be some of the most notable though. Also note that this is not requesting any kind of screenshots but somewhat explanatory representative ones, showing how the tool looks like and explaining a bit how it's used or what for. --Prototyperspective (talk) 15:10, 27 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

Examples of science fiction themes & subgenres

[edit]

See d:Wikidata:List of science fiction themes and d:Wikidata:List of science fiction genres. Usually, the image should be somewhat representative, e.g. show how the theme is commonly depicted. --Prototyperspective (talk) 15:10, 27 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

File:Owl WTP.jpg

[edit]

The image file, File:Owl WTP.jpg, must be uploaded onto either Wikimedia or Wikipedia, preferably Wikimedia, by someone who has an account. Oh, and in case you're wondering, it must be a picture of Owl from the Disney Winnie the Pooh franchise, and it must be this image here. Just click on the link [6]. There aren't any images of Owl from the Disney Winnie the Pooh franchise on Wikipedia, nor Wikimedia, for that matter. I need it for my draft article I'm working on Owl from "Winnie-the-Pooh". I need an image of Owl from the Disney Version of Winnie the Pooh. You can either upload any image of Owl from the Disney Winnie the Pooh franchise, or I can find out who deliberately excluded Owl from The Disney Characters Category in the first place. And, please, DO NOT remove this. I spent days since Sunday, 22 September 2024, trying to find a free, usable image of Owl from the Disney Winnie the Pooh franchise, but there isn't any. Isn't Owl supposed to be included as a Disney character anyway? Or, there's also this [7]. 2601:401:4300:3720:984A:B17:AB5B:7DD4 19:46, 24 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Deadpool costume display in Wrexham, Wales

[edit]

Hello. In the en:Racecourse Ground football stadium in Wrexham, Wales, there's a cafe called the Centenary Club Cafe. According to this BBC article, the cafe has a display of the costume worn by Wrexham AFC player Paul Mullin in the film Deadpool & Wolverine. I think a photo of this display would be very useful for several articles on Wikipedia (such as en:Paul Mullin, en:Deadpool & Wolverine, and en:Wade Wilson (film character)). Per COM:FOP UK, the UK has freedom of panorama for 3D artworks such as sculptures, so photos of this display would be allowed on Commons. Conversion of audio file

[edit]

I am hoping that someone can help me convert the following audio file (Janes walk) from .m4a to .ogg, and also remove a 35-sec delay at the beginning of the file: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1hnz84FfwRMJBKxQz5AJkWfhC_Q44Wl-6 The later 32-MB audio file is a 33-minute walking tour of Britannia Village, Ottawa. The converted file could then be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons. I plan to use the .ogg file from Wikimedia Commons in this Wikipedia article ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Britannia_Village,_Ottawa ) based on the coding of the music audio file “Oh Susanna” in its Wikipedia article. According to ChatGPT, the Britannia Village audio walking tour will be the first walking tour embedded directly into a Wikipedia article (there are already QR-code initiated walking tours).

Pursuant to advice from Shaemous Flocks (VRT), the Britannia Village Community Association uploaded the copyright release from the author (Mike Kaulbars) to the following locked site: https://bvcaottawa.wordpress.com/news-events/news/ (see bottom of page). A link to the PDF of the original email of the copyright release is also there.

@RoyZuo: (Sigh)
  1. There's a problem with naming its Chinese entry when I nominated DYK in Chinese Wikipedia. You can see it on its Talk page. I will propose a discussion on it later. But the name, "加里·霍伊", is not that "fake". Have a look at my analysis (In short, some people used it. References: Zhihu, Facebook, and 網易). There are actually people who believe that "the photographic evidence is invalid" because of a source's reliability - You can still believe that it's a stupidity of wikipedia, but listening to them is important.

English redub videos of the Russo-Ukrainian War from 2025

[edit]

English redubs (subtitles would be good too) of various videos of Category:Videos of the Russo-Ukrainian War from 2025. People can't understand what is said in these videos because just very few people, especially on the frontpage, speak Ukrainian. The redubs can be made quite fast as described in the guide at Help:AI video dubbing#SoniTranslate. It works best if you have that free software installed but one can also use the Web UI. International Footballers

Hey all, I am unsure whether this is the correct forum but I am hoping to have each Records section of every international men's football team display their player with the most appearances and the player with the most goals, much like the Senegalese page.

There are many examples of images that are missing so to list but a few; Raúl Díaz Arce of El Salvador, and the two leaders from Dominican Republic and Malawi. I could go on but I just wanted to check to see whether this kind of request was even feasible!

Many thanks. TheGoalGuy (talk) 22:55, 21 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

Various GLAM request files

[edit]

The following is a list of very notable public domain works that are lacking high resolution files on Commons. Please strike-thru once a wish has been granted.

Request for blur: File:Hostages Square 09102025 11.jpg

[edit]

Could someone please blur the central banner? While the file was kept because it was deemed "de minimis" by closing administrator, I doubt it would really be legally regarded as such, and so if it's going to be kept at least we should properly blur the banner (which as being temporary isn't covered by Israeli freedom of panorama as far as I'm concerned). No one has taken action to do this so far, only invalid arguments (if any) were raised on the deletion request page. 2804:388:410B:F502:95A5:FF75:7E37:9991 04:59, 25 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

File:Illustrating Wikipedia brochure.pdf is very outdated. Things look very different now. Maybe parts of the text need updates too but the images will be very confusing. The file is used on many pages, including en:Help:Pictures, en:Help:Files and meta:Commons brochure.

Bert Convey Wiki Page

[edit]

Bert Convey Wiki Page

Bert Convey (1933-1991) is best known as the handsome host and a frequent panelist on a bevy of television game shows in the 60's, 70', and 80's.

Sadly, he's unrecognizable in the single black and white photo from a one-time acting 1960 appearance on his wiki page where he's depicted looking weathered and stunned and scruffy stunned in a pith helmet, beard and para-military uniform... rather than his curly locks, stellar smile, and usual dapper manner of dress.

Countless full-color photos capturing a better and more up-to-date likeness of Mr. Convey as he should be remembered as his sensational handsome self are available online... and would serve a tremendous and more fitting tribute to this fine gentleman who passed at the early age of 57.

Plus Wikipedia readers are far more likely recognize him as he appeared at the height of his memorable television career.

I'd like to see how we can replace the existing photo with this one that captures Mr. Convey at his very best.

@Mateussf I gave it a try, see Category:Beet sugar. I'm an amateur photographer, though, and don't know how to assess image quality, so I took a bunch of photos with my Google Pixel 8 Pro (photos 01-09) and Canon EOS 250D (photos 10-24) and uploaded them all. If you have any tips regarding camera settings of the Canon EOS 250D to take better photos of the sugar, let me know and I'll give it another go. Choropleth map that shows number of subscribers of subreddits & state of censorship

[edit]

A world map that visualizes

  • the number of subscribers as well as
  • the degree of censorship

of the country's/countries' main subreddit. Lots of subreddits like /r/de are heavily censored arbitrarily by moderators depending for example whether the mods politically disagree with opinions of the user per their comments or just about any other imaginable reason. So I think it would be useful to also see which subreddits heavily suppress reasonably-free speech.

A country usually has realistically just one main subreddit. It's a bit more complicated for countries that do have their own subreddit but speak a language that another subreddit is for – such as Austria with /r/austria and /r/de – maybe these could get some symbol to denote that. The censorship data may need to get collected first but that may not be super difficult and could maybe readily be done online if somebody built this. Countries without that data would only show the coloring representing the number of subscribers. Prototyperspective (talk) 18:14, 13 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Prototyperspective: is there some objective scale or measurement of degree of censorship? Or some entity that claims to measure this? I can imagine all sorts of problems coming to such a measurement. - Jmabel ! talk 20:24, 13 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
Yes that would be a difficulty there. I suggest the people or person who build this, does create criteria for which level of censorship. So e.g. no significant reports of censorship = 0, too stringent rules = level 1, occasional arbitrary deletion & bans = level 2, systematic or frequent arbitrary deletions & bans due to deviating from the subjective opinion of the mods or some political doctrine = level 3. If there is no external study one can cite for this (and researchers could do this research after reading this file request) then level 1 would be sourced via an archived version of the subreddit with the subreddit rules and the other levels via lists of screenshot-proven examples of deletions & bans that yes somebody would need to aggregate and compile. --Prototyperspective (talk) 21:07, 13 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
Related (this could be used for this): d:Wikidata:List of country and language-specific subreddits (one could also color countries by fraction of country population instead of absolute subscriber counts). Similar map "[Each country's subreddit and its number of members](https://www.reddit.com/r/dataisbeautiful/comments/17rhnpx/each_countrys_subreddit_and_its_number_of_members/)" (not free-licensed, not also enabling the integration of censorship data, not considering the language subreddits which often are larger than the country-specific ones). --Prototyperspective (talk) 21:52, 18 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
