Kay Bailey Hutchison Women in Texas History Award

The Hutchison Award seeks to honor exceptional women who have made a lasting mark on Texas history. It recognizes and celebrates the contributions of women in marking and preserving Texas history.  

Honorees are selected for having shown passion for serving Texas by actively promoting and preserving Texas history for future generations. Recipients receive $2,500, a Yellow Rose of Texas necklace specially designed by jeweler Mariquita Masterson of Houston, and a certificate as recognition for their great work. The award will be announced during the Women in Texas History Luncheon at the TSHA Annual Meeting.

The award is named in honor of former U.S. Ambassador and U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison, who authored three bestsellers: American Heroines: The Spirited Women Who Shaped Our Country (2004), Leading Ladies: American Trailblazers (2007) and Unflinching Courage: Pioneering Women Who Shaped Texas (2013).
