Michael C. Miller


 Michael C. Miller, CA, is an independent historian and archivist based in Austin, Texas and in January 2026 will begin a new role as the Director of Public Services for Archives & Records at the Texas General Land Office. He most recently served as the Executive Director of the Rosenberg Library Association where he oversaw all operations of the Library, Museum, and the Galveston & Texas History Center. This essentially meant he went to a lot of meetings, and his staff did most of the fun work. Prior to that, he served as the city archivist for the City of Austin and manager of the Austin History Center, Austin Public Library, the local archives division of the public library dedicated to preserving and celebrating the history of Austin and Travis County. Prior to coming to the History Center, he worked as the Special Collections Librarian in the Texas/Dallas History & Archives Division of the Dallas Public Library where he curated the Historic Maps and Kennedy Assassination collections. He has a BA in history from St. Edward's University, an MA in history and MS in information science from the University of North Texas and is a Certified Archivist. He has authored or co-authored four books: Austin’s First Cookbook, Historic Austin Movie Houses, and Texas On Ice, a 2-volume set documenting the story of ice sports in Texas. Miller is also president of the Texas Hockey History Society and working with co-author Chuck Swanlund on his 5th book, Pucks on the Prairie: 100 Years of Ice Hockey in Texas, under contract with Texas A&M Press.
