North Abilene is located on U.S. highways 277 and 83 just across the county line in southeastern Jones County and approximately five miles northwest of Abilene. The community was shown on county highway maps in the early 1970s and possibly developed around Butterfield Trail Airport, an aviation field that was in operation by the early 1960s. The airport closed by 1982, but some industry and business still operated in the area in 2004. No population figures are available.
