Roman Forest is located east of U. S. Highway 59 and near the East Fork of the San Jacinto River about thirty-two miles northeast of Houston and twenty-three miles southeast of Conroe in southeastern Montgomery County. The community began as a residential subdivision that developers named for the area's wooded terrain. By the mid-1970s residents voted to incorporate and established a city government. In 1980 Roman Forest had a population of 929. That number increased to 1,033 in 1990 and 1,279 in 2000. Roman Forest has its own police force, elementary school, and churches. Most citizens commute to Houston.
